I say we should legalize Marijuana and make tobacco illegal. Tobacco causes more deaths a year than Pot. Also the government lies or twists stuff to make it look bad. One example would be they stated it killed brain cells. They base this of a test in the 60-70s (can't remember) by sticking a monkey in a cage and feeding only burnt marijuana in there. Thus cutting off the monkeys oxygen supply and without oxygen, brain cells die. It's good for Cancer patients and we have the right to do so as long as we don't harm anyone else. It's the people's choice what they put in the there body, not the governments. Edit: ok I can't find the link I found last year but I did find this one Doesnt kill brain cells. it doesn't kill brain cells, but it does coat short term memory cells, making it more difficult for them to send and receive the chemicals needed to form memories. they're still there, and they're not damaged, they just don't function properly. personally, i think recreational drugs should be judged on one criteria only: how dangerous do they make the user. under this system, most narcotics and depressants would be legal, while most stimulants and hallucinogens would be illegal. all recreational drugs would be heavily taxed, and would require both a surgeon general's warning and images of damage caused by the drugs to be on the package. they also could not be commercially advertised, and couldn't be sold with x number of yards of schools, parks, or public buildings. smoking anything in a closed space would be illegal, since you are forcing those around you to breathe your smoke. and public intoxication/ driving while intoxicated laws would still apply. |

Unless i'm mistaken, you stated that you've been drinking alcohol lately. Alcohol IS a drug and for your age, illegal. My opinion is similar to lunar's. The drugs that could possibly be legalized are the ones that least potential to cause serious hard to other and/or the user. I'd love to add more but i'm using a phone and it's really late. |

Marijuana should be legalized. That's the only one that I would really approve of. |

ok not sure if this link will work due to copyright issues but... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlr8T7r_-Uo&playnext=1&list=PL060EBCAEEBF29888 I feel I have to post this documentary everytime marijuana is brought up for those who haven't yet seen it. It's a non biased look at how people use marijuana. The overall message I get from this show is that while for some people it's an occassional, recreational chill out method. For others it's an addictive and life destroying monster. I'd advise staying well clear just to be on the safe side. But I'm a fairly sensible and safe person so I would think that way. |

It varies per person. Its like anything else anymore medicine, junk food sex, ect. So people feel they need it to get through the day while others don't. I don't think everyone else should be punished for something that only affects certain people. I don't do drugs but I believe in equality and people's rights. I say if it doesn't affect anyone but the person doing it, then it would be legal. |

But when it does go tits up, it does affect more than one person. Close family, friends, work, ect. on the other hand, alcohol and some medication can have these consequences too. Alcohol is the most dangerous substance I will risk consuming. And I'm borderline addcited to that so heck knows what would happen if I tried the wacky backy. |

Drugs should be legalized, no questions asked, period. These laws are completely irrational and hypocritical like most government activity. You can't argue that drugs are 'bad for you' and 'destroy lives' when the exact same applies for practically anything consumable when used excessively. I could go on, but it's obvious crap you've all heard before like reduced gang violence, legal substances do as much if not more damage, victimless crime blah blah blah has a point. We must closely address to the issues concerning why people traverse the road of addiction, making something illegal does not and never will fix anything. Edited by SirParagon, Aug 25 2011, 03:37 AM.

Ok now I am going to give my full point now. I think some drugs, mostly marijuana should be legal. Now a few drugs are just like alcohol. It will make you a little lax and stuff but it won't do too much damage. Marijuana won't do too much damage to the body at all. I knew one guy who did the stuff. When he wasn't on it he was just a introverted guy that rarely spoke, but when he was on he was more lax and it seem like he was a better person while on it. Now I am not saying to use it but I am saying that the damages are just slight. Also the war on drugs in my opinion is just plain stupid. Making it illegal is one thing but the whole war and everything is a waste of money in my opinion. Look back in the 1920's. The prohibition was one of the biggest mistake America ever had. It started the boom of the Mafia and Gangs in america. There is also more reason why legalizing it will be good. 1. Even with the high taxes on the drugs it will still be cheaper than buying from a dealer. 2. It is also less dangerous than buying from the dealer. 3. Crime rate would be lower. 4. Plus from the huge money from taxes it will be a money maker. Win win win. But one thing though. I am not saying to do drugs nor am I going go out and do them. Just stating my opinion. |

No. No you cannot. The death rate, or even just the number of live destroyed by, say, heroin, cannot possibly be compared to eating too much chocolate. Or even other recreational drugs, you think marijuana and cocaine should both be legalised? Tbh, I think marijuana should be legalised, sure it can ruin lives and has some cardiovascular and lung problems, but so can smoking tobacco, and that's legal. They're both terrible ideas, but terrible ideas of the same calibre, so should be legalised imo. But of course should come with health warnings and all the same nonsense you get. But that should be where it ends. Nothing else should be legalised, because of the harm they can do to people. Oh, and just one more point, I always understood that most drug-related crime was people committing crimes for the money for drugs? Obviously that's not 100%, but I always thought it was a majority. And if that is the case, and please correct me if I'm wrong, then legalising it won't reduce crime by that much, since it will be heavily taxed, and still fairly expensive. And as you might have guessed, I personally wouldn't touch the stuff if it came with a free holiday home in Spain. |
